Leak damages 6 paintings at Prado in Madrid

MADRID, April 20 (UPI) -- Six paintings and eight sketches were damaged when water leaked into a storeroom in one of the world's major museums, the Prado in Spain.

Officials at the Museo del Prado in Madrid said Friday one of the damaged paintings was "Wedding Feast," by the 16th-century Flemish painter Jan Brueghel the Elder, ThinkSpain reported.

The sketches were by 18th and 19th century artists.

All of the damage can be repaired, officials said, because it was to the varnish rather than to the paint underneath. The varnish will be stripped and replaced.
