SOUFRIERE, Saint Lucia, April 15 (UPI) -- About 55 cruise passengers were robbed at gunpoint while sightseeing on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, officials said.

The incident happened Friday at the Botanical Gardens in Soufriere, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported.

Officials from Celebrity Cruises confirmed 55 passengers from the Celebrity Eclipse ship were held at gunpoint during the excursion, adding no one was injured during the robbery and such incidents are rare.

However, a member of the Internet forum Cruise Critic who was part of the group that was robbed alleged a woman fell and broke her leg during the robbery.

"We are on the Eclipse," they wrote. "Yesterday we were ported in St. Lucia. One of the ship tours was robbed at gunpoint by three masked gunmen. We were not on the tour, but friends were. They said one woman fell and broke her leg; no one else was injured. All their money and jewelry were taken."

A spokesman for Celebrity Cruises denied anyone had been hurt: "The affected guests have been contacted by our Guest Care Team to offer assistance, if necessary," they said. "We are thankful that none of our guests were injured in this unfortunate event, and will continue to provide them any support they may need."
