Sri Lankans investigating mass grave

MATALE, Sri Lanka, April 8 (UPI) -- Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered a full-scale investigation into the origin of a mass grave unearthed in Matale, a spokesman said.

Rajapaksa's office said the grave contains skeletal remains of 154 people who a forensics expert said died sometime between 1987 and 1990, Hirufmnews.lk said Sunday.

Marxist opposition leaders said they believe the grave contains remains of rebels who led an anti-government insurgency in 1989, ColomboPage said.
