Security officials Monday called on Coptic Christians positioned on the cathedral's roof to get down. Witnesses said traffic had been restored and the area was being cleared of debris.

On Saturday, at least four Christians and one Muslim were killed in sectarian clashes after a group of Christian teenagers allegedly painted offensive drawings on the gates of a Muslim facility in Abbasseya, the state-run news agency MENA said.
