PESHAWAR, Pakistan, April 5 (UPI) -- Four security officers and 14 militants were killed in a clash Friday in Pakistan's Tirah Valley, security officials reported.

About 40,000 residents of the area have fled their homes because of the fighting in the area, which has became a stronghold of the militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Pakistani newspaper the Express Tribune said Friday.

Two members of a peace committee were killed Friday and fire was set to homes of residents who oppose the presence of the militants, the Pakistani news website Dawn.com reported.

In reaction to the offensive by security officers, militants fired four rockets into the nearby city of Peshawar, killing at least one person and injuring five others, including four children, Dawn.com said.
