PARIS, March 29 (UPI) -- Paris' shopping district, including its most famous avenue, the Champs-Elysees, is the city's most polluted area, a report has found.
Airparif, a non-profit organization created to monitor Paris' air quality, says the wealthier parts of the city's right bank have the dirtiest air, The Local.fr reported Thursday.
Airparif said nine of 10 Parisians breathed higher levels of air pollution in 2012.
The worst place to find fresh air, he said, was the Place Victor-et-Helene Basch in the southern part of the city.
The Avenue Champs-Elysees, where visitors are drawn to the street's famous shops every day, was ranked second.
In third and fourth place were Place de l'Opera and Boulevard Haussmann.
Of the 60 pollutants measured by Airparif, the one exceeding the limits that raised the most concern was nitrogen dioxide, which has been linked to respiratory tract irritation.
