Reporter missing in Scottish highlands

INVERNESS, Scotland, March 27 (UPI) -- Police searched parking lots Tuesday in the Scottish Highlands for a missing reporter's Volkswagen Polo.

Clive Dennier, 50, of Inverness was reported missing Monday when he failed to show up at work at the Grantown office of the Badenoch & Strathspey Herald. He reportedly said he planned to go hiking in the mountains during the weekend, but police said he gave no details about the area.

Gavin Musgrove, the Herald editor, said he was last seen when he left work Friday afternoon.

"Everyone who knows Clive is very concerned by his disappearance as it is completely out of character," Musgrove said. "He would have made every effort to let us know he is safe and well."

Police have issued appeals for anyone who might have spotted Denier or his car to come forward, the Ross-shire Journal said. Friends described him as an experienced and enthusiastic hillwalker.

Much of Britain was hit by a late winter storm during the weekend with snow in the Cairngorms in Scotland reported to be 6 feet deep or more.
