SALLENT DE GALLEGO, Spain, March 27 (UPI) -- A girl from Madrid was critically injured in an avalanche at a ski resort in Sallent de Gallego, Spain, officials said.
The 7-year-old girl and two other children were hit Monday by snow at the Formigal resort in Huesca province, ThinkSPAIN reported Tuesday. The other two children were unharmed.
Emergency officials said the girl had no pulse and was not breathing when she was rescued, but paramedics restarted her heart and she was airlifted to a hospital in Zaragoza.
Hospital personnel said by Tuesday she slipped into a coma.
The girl was sitting down in an area of the resort frequented by children when the avalanche struck her from behind, ThinkSpain reported.
An investigation has been opened, law enforcement officials said.
