JERUSALEM, March 20 (UPI) -- Israeli lawmakers began a monthlong spring vacation Wednesday, just one day after the new government was sworn in.

Opposition leader Shelley Yacimovich said new members are frustrated leaving so soon after taking office, Haaretz reported.

"We have been through a campaign, through coalition negotiations and now the Knesset is taking a recess, which is completely inappropriate," Yacimovich said.

Because of elections, lawmakers did little during the nine months that followed its summer recess.

"We came to work," complained new member Ronen Hoffman, who tried but failed to get the Knesset chairman to shorten the recess.
