MONTREAL, March 20 (UPI) -- A man accused in the death and dismemberment of a Chinese engineering student collapsed in a Canadian courtroom forcing an early adjournment, his lawyer said.
Luc Leclair said his client Luka Rocco Magnotta, 30, became too ill to continue his preliminary hearing and should be fine to return to Quebec Court on Wednesday, Postmedia News reported.
A publication ban prevents the media from reporting some of the specifics about the hearing which will determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.
Magnotta is charged with first-degree murder in the death last May of Lin Jun, who was studying computer science and engineering at Concordia University in Montreal.
Lin's head, arms and legs were cut off and his torso was found in a suitcase on a sidewalk beside a pile of trash.
Two Canadian political parties in Ottawa and two schools in Vancouver received parcels in the mail containing Lin's hands and feet. His head was found in a Montreal park.
Magnotta was arrested in Berlin in June following an international manhunt.
