JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, March 13 (UPI) -- A Saudi Arabian man delayed the departure of an airplane, demanding all women traveling without companions disembark, the Jeddah daily newspaper Okaz reported.

The Flight 1108 from Jeddah to Dammam was preparing for takeoff from King Abdulaziz International Airport when the male passenger, whose name was not reported, loudly told a flight attendant she should not travel without a male companion, Okaz reported.

"Why are you on the plane without a mahram [companion]?" he asked.

The man insisted the plane should not depart until all unaccompanied women disembarked, Gulf News reported Wednesday.

Airport security was called to remove the man and his son after he delayed departure for two hours.
