Pakistani election commissioner shot dead

QUETTA, Pakistan, March 12 (UPI) -- Gunmen killed the Quetta district election commissioner and at least three people were killed and dozens injured in two bombings, Pakistani police said Tuesday.

Muhammad Ziaullah Qasmi died Tuesday after being shot eight times by gunmen riding a motorcycle, Dawn News reported. The gunmen opened fire on a car carrying the district election commissioner. Qasmi's driver was injured in the attack.

"The incident seems to be an act of target killing," said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

At least three people died and 18 others were injured in Bannu due to a suicide bomb, Geo News reported.

A suicide bomber on a motorcycle targeted a police van, authorities said.

Heavy gunfire was reported in the area after the blast, Geo News reported.

A bomb blast near the residence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar injured seven people, Geo News reported.

The blast occurred when laborers began construction work near the site of the blast, police said.

Iftikhar was not at home at the time of the blast.
