Woman accused of killing husband over cat

ULAN-UDE, Russia, March 4 (UPI) -- A 56-year-old woman was accused of stabbing her husband to death in East Siberia's Buryatia region after he threatened to kill her cat, Russian officials said.

The woman and her husband were drinking alcohol together one night and began arguing over a cat that had recently moved onto their farm and was living with their livestock, RIA Novosti reported.

The man disliked the cat, often tried to scare it away and tried to kill it with a rake, investigators said.

"In a move to protect the animal, the woman seized the rake from his hands and then snatched a knife from the table in a fit of rage and stabbed the man three times in the chest," a police spokesman said.

The woman was charged in the killing and, if convicted, faces up to 15 years in prison.
