GRAND PRAIRIE, Alberta, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A Canadian man was sent to jail for three years Wednesday for a 2011 two-vehicle crash that killed four high school football players.
Justice William A. Tilleman gave Brendon Holubowich, 23, of Wembley a prison term agreed to by prosecutors and Holubowich's attorney, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Holubowich had pleaded guilty Tuesday to four counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of dangerous driving causing injury
Four members of the Grande Prairie Composite High School Warriors football team were killed and a fifth player was injured when Holubowich's pickup, traveling at least 75 mph, smashed into their car as they were making a U-turn. Authorities said Holubowich had been drinking.
"The courts just failed us completely," CTV News quoted Desiree Judd, the mother of Zach Judd, the only survivor of the crash. as saying. "They failed the boys, they failed Zach."
