Settlers, Palestinians clash in West Bank

JERUSALEM, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Israeli troops separated groups of Palestinians and Israeli settlers that had clashed in a West Bank village Saturday, military officials said.

Israeli forces said they dispersed about 25 settlers and 150 Palestinians in Kursa, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Unconfirmed reports from Palestinian media claimed the settlers fired live ammunition during the fracas, injuring two Palestinians. Another seven victims were treated for injuries from gas and rubber bullets.

The Post said Kursa had been the scene of trouble earlier in the week after an Israeli military work crew had taken down a dozen telephone poles authorities said had been illegally erected.
