King Juan Carlos to undergo surgery

MADRID, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Spain's King Juan Carlos will undergo surgery for a herniated disc, his twelfth surgery in as many months, his doctor said.

The king, 75, is still recovering from his November hip replacement operation and requires crutches to perform his public duties, the website ThinkSpain reported Friday.

The king's medical staff said the lower back hernia is an old problem that has gotten worse over time.
