French family taken captive in Cameroon

YAOUNDE, Cameroon, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A French family of seven on holiday in Africa were kidnapped in Cameroon, French President Francois Hollande said Tuesday.

The family, which includes four young children, two boys and two girls, were taken captive in Cameroon, near the Nigeria border, and taken to Nigeria, Radio France Internationale said.

The kidnappers were armed with guns and arrived on motorcycles, the French Embassy in the Cameroon capital, Yaounde, said. It is the first time Westerners have been kidnapped in Cameroon, though other instances in Nigeria and Mali, where French troops are fighting radical Islamists, have been reported.
