His family claimed the grade-eight student was killed by men in the same village for falling in love with a girl from a higher caste.

Villagers surrounded the local police station, demanding officers arrest the killers.

Police said no action would be taken until an autopsy was completed.

Bihar has been the site of several other recent caste-related killings, the report said.

A teenager in the Kaimur district was beaten, tortured, bound and thrown under a speeding train after he wrote a love letter to a girl of a different caste.

In the Bhagalpur district, eight people were shot and beheaded after a family member eloped with a young woman from a wealthy family.
