Militants killed in Pakistan airstrikes

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Airstrikes on suspected military hideouts in a mountainous region in Pakistan's northwestern tribal area killed at least 13 people Saturday, officials said.

Noman Ali Shah, an official in the administration of the Orazkai district, said four hideouts were destroyed by bombing in the early morning, the newspaper Dawn reported. The strikes occurred in Mamozai, a mountainous area on the edge of the Tirah Valley.

In Quetta, a bomb went off near the police station. Investigators said human body parts were found, suggesting the attack was a suicide bombing. No other deaths were reported, although at least three people were injured.

In the Tirah Valley, at least eight militants died in fighting between a pro-government group, Ansarul Islam, and Tehrik-i-Taliban, a banned group, officials said Saturday.
