Since midnight Friday more than 100 vehicle accidents have been reported on southern Ontario highways, Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Dave Woodford said.

On the Queen Elizabeth Way, a highway from the U.S. border at Buffalo to Toronto, a snowplow fell into a ditch and a salting truck rolled over, the newspaper said.

A Toronto bus line was diverted due to fallen power wires, and schools, including Toronto's major universities, were closed.

The newspaper said as much as centimeters (9.8 inches) of snow were expected.
