ABUJA, Nigeria, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The Nigerian army has dismissed four soldiers found guilty of raping women in Abuja and stealing their valuables, an army source told the Daily Trust.
The source was quoted in a story published in the Nigerian newspaper Wednesday as saying the solders, all members of the Guards Brigade, committed the acts in the nation's capital while on duty.
"They usually began chasing their victims in the middle of the night, forcing them into their van before they took them to secluded areas in the central business district," the source said. "In some instances, they bullied the victims before raping and stealing their money."
The dismissal of the soldiers was announced by Maj. Peter Elayo who identified the four as Nse Eyedip, Emeze Uzonna, Ugwu Mathew and Efosa Ikhuomoregbe.
Elayo said the four were dismissed following an investigation by a board of inquiry.
