KABUL, Afghanistan, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A senior Taliban operative was captured in Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force said Sunday.
The prisoner's identity was not released, but the ISAF said he was a liaison between the Taliban and leaders of the Haqqani insurgency in the Zurmat district of Paktiya province.
The ISAF said in a written statement the suspect took part in the procurement of rocket-propelled grenades and other ordnance and was allegedly working on plans for a suicide bombing in Kabul when he and several other insurgents were nabbed by coalition and Afghan personnel.
The ISAF also said a top Haqqani commander was arrested in Paktiya in a separate operation Sunday. The suspect was also involved in the supplying of guns and improvised explosive devices in the area.
