Man rescued from Toronto subway tracks

TORONTO, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A man who fell onto the subway tracks in Toronto was pulled to safety by several Good Samaritans, a Toronto Transit Commission spokesman said.

Brad Ross, the TTC's executive director of corporate communications, said the man, whose name wasn't released, suffered only a cut hand in the Tuesday afternoon incident, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

"He was helped back up to the platform by some bystanders," Ross told the news network. "The power was cut, so the track was safe."

There are power cutoffs at each end of the subway platforms. A TCC worker also played a role in the rescue.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the fall, officials said.
