ROME, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Outgoing Italian Premier Mario Monti took to Twitter to tell people that "complaining does not help," and instead they need to "engage in politics."
The tweets from Monti came Tuesday, Agenzia Giornalistica Italia reported.
"Together we have saved Italy from disaster. It is now time for politics to be renewed," the premier said. "Complaining does not help. We need to engage in politics."
Also Christmas Day, Monti called President Giorgio Napolitano and expressed his "deep gratitude for the outstanding moral and institutional guidance" he had given the country. He called ex-premier and founder of the center-right People of Freedom party Silvio Berlusconi, PdL Secretary Angelino Alfano, Democratic Party leader Pier Luigi Bersani and head of the small centrist Catholic UDC party, Pier Ferdinando Casini to tell them he had "appreciation" for their "input in parliament" during the "national emergency."
Monti resigned from his position Friday after the Italian Parliament voted on the 2013 budget law. He has posted on the Internet that he would form a new coalition force and run in Italy's upcoming general election.
