TEL NOF, Israel, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Israel is monitoring Syria's chemical weapons sites and hasn't ruled out a military strike if they fall into the wrong hands, Israel's air force chief said.
Syria is falling apart rapidly and the disintegration presents a host of security threats "very close to Israel," air force chief Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel said Wednesday at the Tel Nof air base.
"We are prepared to deal with any scenario or threat, including unconventional weapons. This is an issue for the country's decision makers. We are providing the relevant capabilities, so that if it is decided to use them, we will know how to," Ynetnews.com quoted Eshel saying.
Referring to Monday's explosion in the southern Lebanese town of Tair Harfa, Eshel said those who "sleep with rockets and amass large stockpiles of weapons are in a very unsafe place. It is not a secret that Hezbollah is prepared in southern Lebanon, in violation of U.N. resolutions," The Jerusalem Post quoted him as saying.
