Official denies John McAfee was captured

BELIZE CITY, Belize, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Officials in Belize have denied reports that software company founder John McAfee has been captured in the investigation of the shooting death of his neighbor.

McAfee has been on the run since one of his neighbors, U.S. businessman Gregory Viant Faull, was shot to death, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported.

McAfee gave a brief and bizarre interview to CNN and since then media reports have claimed that he had been captured near the border of Mexico and Belize.

Belize City Mayor Daniel Guerrero said, "It's not true."

Jorge Aldana, a senior reporter at the San Pedro Sun newspaper, said, "I can tell you positively that John McAfee has not been captured."

Faull, 52, who lived about 300 yards from McAfee on Ambergris Caye, an island off Belize, was fatally shot Nov. 11. McAfee has been named as a suspect in the case and has since been on the run with a female companion.

Police have been conducting house-to-house searches on the north end of Ambergris Caye.
