LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Stormy conditions in Britain caused the deaths of two men while flooding and power outages were reported across the country, officials said.

On Thursday night, a pensioner died after his vehicle became stuck under a bridge amid flooding in Chew Stoke, England, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Fire crews pulled the man out of the vehicle out but he was pronounced dead by paramedics on the way to hospital.

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old man died in a car crash in Devon. The man was declared dead at the scene of the crash Thursday afternoon.

Roads in southern and western Britain remained flooded Friday and more than 100 people were evacuated after winds reached more than 86 mph in some areas.

About 2,500 Western Power customers in the South West and 500 in Wales were without power after strong winds brought down power lines.

The Met Office predicted bouts of heavy rain and winds of 40-50 mph would affect much of England, Wales and southern Scotland through the weekend.
