Afghan spokesman: Deny militants sanctuary

KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama should focus in his second term on denying Afghan militants safe havens in Pakistan, an Afghan spokesman said Thursday.

Ahmad Zia Seyamak Herawi, a spokesman for President Hamid Karzai, said Afghanistan also expects the U.S. government to continue efforts to train and arm Afghan security forces, Khaama Press reported.

Seyamak Herawi said shutting down militant sanctuaries in Pakistan is the best way to ensure "peace and stability" in Afghanistan.

Abdullah Abdullay, head of the opposition Afghan Coalition, said the group welcomes Obama's re-election.
