Poland's Kaczorowski to be reburied

WARSAW, Poland, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- The body of Polish political leader Ryszard Kaczorowski, buried in the wrong grave in since 2010, will be laid to rest in Warsaw's newly built cathedral.

Kaczorowski died in a 2010 plane crash near Smolensk, Russia, that killed 96 people, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski, and like several of the victims, was buried without proper identification procedures. His exhumation followed the confirmation last month that at least two other victims were buried in the wrong graves, the news service Polskie Radio reported Wednesday.

He was the last leader of Poland's "government in exile," which functioned as a largely ceremonial and inspirational office in London, through World War II and the Polish communist regime. In a formal ceremony in Warsaw's Royal Castle in 1990, he turned over the presidential seal and other trappings of executive power to the newly installed government, the news service said.

The burial will take place Saturday at the new Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw.

"There, this coming Saturday, the journey of this Polish patriot will finally end," said family member Jagoda Kaczorowska.
