Turkish forces say 40 PKK members killed

ANKARA, Turkey, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Turkish officials said security forces killed at least 40 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party in a search for terrorists who killed five people last week.

The PKK members were killed in a five-day operation in the Kazan Valley in Hakkari province, Today's Zaman reported Sunday.

Fighter jets, helicopters and unmanned aircraft were used in the search, officials said.

Turkish authorities said the search was for the killers of three police officers and two village guards.
