Official killed in Russian market attack

KRASNODAR, Russia, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Shotgun-wielding men involved in a conflict with a community official opened fire in a Russian market, killing him and wounding two others, investigators said.

The attackers struck Sunday at a clothing market in the southern city of Krasnodar, RIA Novosti reported.

"There was a conflict between the head of the community and one of the most influential families of the same nationality," the regional investigative committee said in a statement.

Eight members of "an opposing family," including women, "came to the clothing market ... armed with shotguns," the statement said. "As a result of the conflict, initiated by the women, the men of the family started shooting. One person was killed and two were injured."

The man who was killed was "an official adviser to the head of one of the national communities of Russia's south," an investigator said. Two others were injured.

All of the shooters fled the scene, police said.
