Russian President Vladimir Putin turns 60

MOSCOW, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin observed his 60th birthday Sunday quietly, but with much media adulation.

Most Russian news outlets carried biographies and photos of Putin, who is now serving his third term as president, but none were as effusive about him as The Voice of Russia.

"For Russians, it has become the norm to watch their president working every day and to continue to be amazed by President Putin's work ethic and his ability to work non-stop without exception, regardless of distance, time zones, seasons, his own personal mood or less than perfect health," the report said.

Putin served two terms as president from 2000 to 2008. Because of term limits, he worked as prime minister under President Dmitry Medvedev, during which time the government extended presidential terms from four to six years, the RIA Novosti news agency said.

Putin was re-elected president earlier this year.
