Truth Committee wants retrial of Mubarak

CAIRO, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Egypt's Truth Seeking Committee said imprisoned former President Hosni Mubarak, Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of Adly's top aides should be retried.

Mubarak and Adly were sentenced to life in prison, but the interior minister's aides were acquitted, for their roles in the killing of protesters in Tahrir Square last year, Bikyamasr.com reported Friday.

The committee, formed by a presidential decree a year ago to investigate the events behind 2011 uprising, sent a report to the attorney general that said the court based its ruling in the case against Mubarak, Adly and the aides, solely on Cairo, especially on the Tahrir Square events, and neglected the clashes that took place all across the country.

"I was very surprised and wondered why this point was neglected," said Amr Marwan, the general coordinator of the committee.

The attorney general's office confirmed it received the report.
