MOSCOW, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- An underwater drone is being developed in Russia, a defense industry official said.
Anatoly Shlemov, head of defense contracts at the United Shipbuilding Corp., said the unmanned craft would be used for various tasks, RIA Novosti reported.

Shlemov said the U.S. Navy is working on a similar project.
RIA Novosti said Russia has been working on drone technology since the late 1980s but this is the first time it has been officially discussed.
