Two U.N. peacekeepers missing in Sudan

KABKABIYA, Sudan, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Two peacekeepers have gone missing in Sudan's North Darfur, U.N. officials said.

The joint U.N.-African Union peacekeeping mission, or UNAMID, peacekeepers went missing in the town of Kabkabiya Monday, the United Nations said in a release.

UNAMID officials said both the mission and the Sudanese government are investigating the situation.

Fighting in Darfur had been ongoing since 2003, with government and allied forces battling armed rebel groups.
