KIEV, Ukraine, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Prosecutors Tuesday asked a judge not to amend the sentence of convicted former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
Oksana Drohobytska of the Prosecutor General's Office asked the Superior Specialized Civil and Criminal Court to leave unchanged the sentence of Tymoshenko, given a seven-year sentence in 2011 after being convicted of abusing her office while brokering a natural gas contract with Russia, the Ukrainian news service ForUm reported Tuesday.
The prosecutor's request came after Tymoshenko's attorney, Oleksandr Plakhotnuk, appealed the gas case verdict, ForUm said.
Drohobytska noted Tymoshenko's actions led to serious consequences and losses to Naftogaz, the Ukrainian oil and gas company, and that Tymoshenko and her allies deliberately obstructed the case and delayed court proceedings, the news service said.
