EILAT, Israel, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- The Salafi Front in Sinai claimed responsibility for firing two rockets at the Israeli sea resort town of Eilat and for bombing the Egypt-Israel pipeline.
A statement issued by the group Thursday said it had no intention to harm Egyptian soldiers operating in the Sinai; its goal is to fight Zionists and Jews, Israel Radio said.
The Israeli army and other security forces renewed the search for the remnants of suspected Grad rockets fired at Israel's southernmost city late Wednesday. Two loud explosions rocked the city, causing panic and triggering a security alert. There were no reports of damage or injury.
Security forces immediately began searching for the sites where they suspected rockets fell, the radio said. Military officials estimate the rockets were fired from the Sinai, the radio said.
The Salafi Front in Sinai also condemned Egypt's military operations in the Sinai aimed at cracking down on terrorists operating in the area, the report said. The Salafi Front also said it was responsible for the bombing of the gas pipeline between Egypt and Israel that has been sabotaged numerous times since former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's ouster.
