Ex-police chief's son admits killing

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- The son of a former police chief in western Canada admitted Wednesday he killed his ex-girlfriend, and called her a "powerful witch" who wanted to kill him.

Mark Lindsay, 25, made the confession while on the witness stand in Kamloops, British Columbia, where he is on trial on charges of aggravated assault and robbery, The Daily News of Kamloops reported. In Alberta, where his father was once the chief of police in Edmonton, he is charged with the murder of Dana Turner.

Prosecutors asked for a psychiatric evaluation after Lindsay's testimony.

Lindsay told a complicated story of being pursued and threatened by Turner and others.

"For the last three years, I've been terrorized and threatened by a group of serial killers," he began, under questioning by his lawyer.

He met Turner while he was in a psychiatric hospital. He spent two months in jail after he was convicted of stabbing her with a paring knife.

"This sounds crazy, but she was a powerful witch and could communicate with me," he said. "She could communicate with me while I was in prison."

He said he spent time with Turner after his release and realized she wanted to kill him. He said he killed her and dumped her body outside Calgary.

Judge Dev Dley reserved decision on a verdict pending the evaluation. Defense lawyer Don Campbell said Lindsay insists on his sanity, so he would neither support nor oppose the prosecution motion.
