Poland wants French, German missile help

WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Poland wants to establish its own missile defense system with the help of France and Germany, officials said.

Polish Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said the planned Polish missile defense system could cost as much as $6 billion, RIA Novosti reported Saturday.

"We want it [creation of the missile defense system] to happen in cooperation with France, Germany and other our allies. NATO welcomes the initiatives of the countries to build up their joint defense capabilities. This is so-called smart defense," Siemoniak told the Polish Press Agency.

Earlier this month, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski said Warsaw was in need of its own missile defense system, which would be a part of the NATO missile defense system.
