Iran says it's upgraded missile

TEHRAN, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Iran's Defense Minister announced the successful test-firing of an upgraded version of a short-range ballistic missile able to hit land and sea targets.

"The fourth generation of the Fateh 110 precision missile with a range of more than 300 kilometers (190 miles) was successfully test-fired by the Defense Ministry's Aerospace Industries Organization," Press TV quoted Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi telling reporters on Saturday.

The upgraded Fateh 110 missile can hit and destroy ground and sea targets, missile sites, arms caches and radars, Vahidi said. The earlier version of the missile put into service in 2002 had a range of 200 kilometers.

The upgraded version of the short-range ballistic missile is road mobile, solid-propellant and has advanced navigation and control systems, the semi-official Fars news agency said.

Iran has been pushing to upgrade its missile capability and has in its possession long range missiles capable of targeting sites in Israel and other areas in the Middle East.
