YEKATERINBURG, Russia, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The Urals State Medical Academy must find those responsible for illegally dumping more than 250 fetuses in a forest, police in Russia said Friday.
Valery Gorelykh, a spokesman for the regional police, said there will be no criminal investigation into the dumping, RIA Novosti reported. But he said the medical school must discipline whoever did the illegal dumping and ensure that similar violations of medical waste laws do not occur.
"Within a month, the rector should take action and report to police about it," Gorelykh said. "Otherwise, he will also face an administrative case on non-compliance with official orders."
The mummified fetuses were all about 22 to 26 weeks from conception. Local residents found barrels holding 248 in a ravine in the forest in late July, and reporters covering a service sponsored by anti-abortion activists Friday discovered three more.
The fetuses had labels giving registration numbers.
