KABUL, Afghanistan, July 31 (UPI) -- Afghan officials said Tuesday the cross-border shelling into eastern Afghan regions was the work of Pakistani military forces.
Deputy Director of the National Directorate for Security Abdul Rahman Rahman told the Afghan Senate Tuesday that Pakistani armed forces are trying to pave the way for militants. He also accused Pakistan of sending anti-government militants to the eastern Kunar province.
Khaama Press reported Interior Minister Bismillah Mohammadi and Chief of Staff for the Afghan Defense Ministry Sher Mohammad Karimi handed over a report to President Hamad Karzai.
The Taliban and groups linked to al-Qaida have carved out strongholds on either side of the disputed border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Several recent cross-border attacks have killed dozens and displaced hundreds of families. Both countries blame each other for the violence.
