Hesham Kandil named Egypt's PM

CAIRO, July 24 (UPI) -- Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi says he has named Hesham Kandil as the country's new prime minister.

Kandil, the country's former minister of irrigation, went to college in the United States before going to work for the African Development Bank, BikyaMasr.com reported Tuesday.

"This appointment of a patriotic and independent figure comes after much study and discussion to choose a person able to manage the current scenario," said Morsi spokesman Yassir Ali.

Ahram Online said Kandil is an Islamist but not affiliated to any party or group.
