3 rescued from collapsed tunnel in China

LOUDI, China, July 8 (UPI) -- Rescue workers pulled three railway workers to safety out of a collapsed tunnel in south-central China, officials said.

The Hongling Tunnel, an under-construction section of the Hukun Railway, collapsed near Loudi on June 30, trapping three railway workers inside the tunnel, Xinhua reported.

After an eight-day rescue operation, which involved about 700 people, the workers were pulled out of the tunnel Saturday night.

"All the three workers were in good condition," rescuers said.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation, officials said.
