Owner of collapsed mall gets death threats

ELLIOT LAKE, Ontario, June 29 (UPI) -- The owner of the Elliot Lake, Ontario, mall whose roof collapsed, killing two women, did not attend a news conference at the mall because of death threats.

Bob Nazarian, the owner of Eastwood Mall, was not at a news conference Thursday regarding Saturday's collapse of the mall's roof because Nazarian's family had received death threats, the Toronto Sun reported.

Nazarian's attorney, Antoine-Rene Fabris, said a class-action lawsuit is being filed against Nazarian, QMI Agency reported.

Fabris also spoke on the mall's safety.

"My family was in the mall when it collapsed," Fabris said. "They were in, they were around. If I had though there was any danger I would not have put my family in harm's way."

Many citizens who attended the news conference felt otherwise.

"We all had bets on when this mall was going to fall down," resident Valerie Clarke said. "We were hoping it would be at nighttime, or some time when nobody would get hurt."
