Two arrested in Thailand resort stabbing

PHUKET, Thailand, June 25 (UPI) -- Two men were arrested in the stabbing death of an Australian travel agent on the resort island of Phuket, Thailand, a government official said Monday.

Michelle Smith, 60, was stabbed in the heart in a suspected purse snatching Wednesday, the Melbourne newspaper The Age reported Monday, adding she was part of a group of 10 travel agents from the city of Perth, Australia, who were visiting Phuket to review new tourist sites.

News of the arrests came from Phuket Gov. Tri Augkaradacha during a meeting of local officials and tourism industry representatives, the Phuket Gazette reported Monday.
