ATHENS, Greece, June 23 (UPI) -- The prime ministers of Greece and Turkey agreed to revive high-level talks between the two countries in a phone call Saturday, officials said.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey called Antonis Samara to wish him well as Samara prepared for eye surgery in an Athens hospital, Ekathimerini reported. The call was also to congratulate Samara on his party's victory in the recent elections.
The two ministers agreed to restart the Greek-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council, state television station ET3 reported. The council, formed in 2010, has not met for several months.
Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and his Turkish counterpart, Mehmet Davutoglu, are to discuss the details of the first meeting, to be held in Ankara, Turkey, at the Black Sea Countries Conference next week.
Doctors at Attiko Hospital said an operation to repair Samara's detached retina went smoothly. The prime minister is expected to remain in the hospital until Sunday or Monday.
