Customs officers charged with stealing

PARIS, June 23 (UPI) -- Seven customs officers in Paris have been charged with stealing from people they believed were taking drug profits out of France.

The seven people arrested Tuesday were among 1,300 officers who work at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Radio France Internationale reported.

The case began as an investigation into a drug operation, officials said. Investigators said they saw customs officers at Charles de Gaulle removing money from the luggage of suspected runners and began keeping a close eye on them.

The group may have stolen millions of euros, investigators said.
