An ambulance hit a bomb in Afghanistan

SAR-E-PUL CITY, Afghanistan, June 11 (UPI) -- An ambulance taking a pregnant woman in labor to a hospital in Afghanistan Monday hit a roadside bomb, killing the woman and four others, officials said.

The explosion happened in the northern Sar-e-Pul province, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Officials said the pregnant woman and four of her family members, including two children, died in the blast and that two others were injured.

No further details were reported.

The Interior Ministry blamed the incident on insurgents, saying, "Targeting civilians is a clear sign of the weakness of insurgents. Such attacks can never weaken the spirit of cooperation between our people and security forces."
