JUBA, South Sudan, June 2 (UPI) -- The United Nations said it is providing emergency aid as it tries to relocate an estimated 20,000 refugees amassed on the South Sudanese border.
Refugees along South Sudan's Elfoj border area have fled their homes because of the ongoing bombing and ground fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Army-North in the Sudanese state of Blue Nile, Adrian Green, spokesman for the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said in a statement.
As many as 40,000 refugees were on their way to South Sudan, most in poor health from malnutrition.
UNHCR is relocating refugees --1,000 at a time -- from Rum to the Yusuf Batil camp.
Edwards said the current refugee influx is "putting tremendous strains on limited resources in this remote area of South Sudan."
